All RUSD Schools Closed Thursday Due To Cold Weather

Record-cold wind chills continue Thursday morning, and snow is expected Thursday afternoon. But hey, maybe school on Friday!

RACINE, WI -- It's enough to make you want to cry frozen tears into frozen mugs of what was once hot chocolate.

Due to the continued record-breaking cold, the Racine Unified School District will be closed on Thursday, Jan.31. This means that all District schools and buildings will be closed and all after-school activities are canceled.

According to the National Weather Service, Thursday morning temperatures will be in the -20s and -30s with wind chills in the -40s.

Wind chills will gradually improve Thursday afternoon into Friday as we warm up into the weekend. However, there is a chance for snow up to two inches, primarily along and south of a line from Lone Rock to Madison to Kenosha, Thursday afternoon and evening that may impact the evening commute.

District officials said schools will be open on Friday, Feb. 1 as the cold temperatures are expected to break Thursday afternoon. "We look forward to seeing students back then. In the meantime, stay warm," officials said.
