Authorities Identify Woman, 66, Who Died In Crash: Report

RACINE COUNTY, WI — Authorities in Racine County have identified the 66-year-old woman who died as a result of a July 18 crash in Racine County.

At just after 9 p.m. on July 18, Racine County Sheriff's deputies responded to the intersection of Durand Ave. and English Settlement Ave. in the Town of Burlington on a report of a crash between a Ford pickup truck and a Chrysler Town and Country.

Sheriff's officials said the drivers of both vehicles suffered major injuries and were flown by Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital for treatment. Officials said a 50-year-old Illinois woman was behind the wheel of the Ford pickup truck, and that a 66-year-old woman was behind the wheel of the Town and Country. Authorities said a 70-year-old man was a passenger along with her.

On Aug. 1, authorities identified the 66-year-old woman as Margie Ames, and that Ames succumbed to injuries she sustained in the crash. "Sheriff Christopher Schmaling and The Racine County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend our sympathy to the family and friends of Margie Ames," the Sheriff wrote in a statement.

Investigators said the Ford pickup truck was heading south on English Settlement Ave., and ran the stop sign at Durand Ave. It was then hit by the Chrysler Town and Country driven by Ames, which was heading east at the time.

Authorities said each of the three people had to be pulled from the vehicles by first responders before they were loaded aboard the Flight for Life helicopter.

Traffic on this stretch of roadway was shut down for about five hours as emergency workers tended to the crash and conducted their investigation.
