Musings of past Springs.

Remembering a Spring from the past.

March is sure a strange month here in our neck of the woods. It can be 80 degrees one day and the next day can bring 40 degrees and a 40 mph wind.

I remember one March a number of years ago it was like living in pea soup. It was foggy and dreary 28 out of the 31 days of the month. We were still feeding animals back then and grinding feed every few days for them as well. We had the yard so cut up with deep wheel tracks from the frost coming out of the ground it was a royal mess! Then it would rain and fill the ruts up with water and melting snow. I can clearly remember, on a few occassions, while carrying bales of hay between buildings and stepping into a rain filled rut and water rushing in over the top of my boot, filling it with the ever so cold water. We even lost a nice tow chain and a nice clevis in the mud that spring. They're both still buried in the yard someplace.

At the time, it wasn't funny. It made taking care of our animals a most difficult task. Not to mention the sheer wear and tear on both man and the equipment. Looking back at it now, I can still say, it sure beats working for a living. When you are doing what you love to do, it's not a job, it's an adventure.
