Food co-ops have been working for years to create healthy communities. The Wild Root Market is committed to meeting our community’s growing demand for local, natural and organic food that is raised sustainably and ethically. All food co-ops are owned and governed by member-owners and are guided by basic principles including concern for community, cooperation, and education.
The Wild Root Market will reflect the unique and entrepreneurial spirit of Racine. It will provide a full-service grocery store with everything you need for one-stop shopping. The Wild Root Market will be a friendly neighborhood gathering place with cooking classes, educational programs, and an in-house deli/café.
The Wild Root Market is poised to enter the final stage of co-op development, which includes securing a location for the store. Over 530 members of the Racine and Kenosha communities have purchased an ownership share in the Wild Root Market. These member-owners are a cooperative of people who represent the core of the Wild Root Market, people who believe that a food co-op will have lasting impact on the vitality of our community.
If you think you’ll shop at the Wild Root Market when it opens, act like you own the place by purchasing an ownership share online now. If you’re interested in hearing more about the links between your food purchases and the wellness of our community, please join us Monday April 22nd, at 7 pm in the First Presbyterian Church in downtown Racine for the free presentation by Mark Kastel of the Cornucopia Institute on Local Sustainable Food Systems.
