Canady Arrested With Drugs, Loaded 9mm Gun In Car: Police

According to Mount Pleasant officers, they learned that the driver was a Felon and on Probation for drugs and weapons violations.

MOUNT PLEASANT, WI — A 20-year-old Racine man was arrested early Wednesday after police say a traffic stop revealed he was a felon carrying a loaded 9mm gun on him.

On Wednesday, Feb. 21, at just after 2 a.m., Mount Pleasant Police stopped the driver of a vehicle that was speeding south on Highway 31 near Graceland Boulevard in the Village of Mount Pleasant.

When officers stopped the man's vehicle and walked up to his car, they noticed that he was acting nervous and he did not have any identification on him.

According to Mount Pleasant officers, they learned that the driver was a Felon and on Probation for drugs and weapons violations. Officers then had the driver exit the vehicle so that a Police K9 could conduct a free air sniff of the vehicle. The Police K9 officer indicated that there was the presence of narcotics inside the car.

A police search of the vehicle was conducted, and officers found a small amount of marijuana, and a loaded Ruger L9 9mm handgun with an obliterated serial number. The driver was arrested and transported to the Mount Pleasant Police Department for Interviews and later were transported to the Racine County on the following charges.

That man, David A. Canady, 20, of Racine, has been arrested and is currently being held in the Racine County Jail. Charges of probation violation, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of marijuana have been referred to the Racine County District Attorney's office for consideration.
