City: Wild Root Market is a 'Go'

The North Side of Racine is getting a boost after City of Racine officials signed off on operations for the Wild Root Market.

RACINE, WI — Wild Root Market has announced they have received approval from the City of Racine to operate their new co-op at the Walton Ave. location.

"We are thrilled to announce that Wild Root Market received the necessary approvals from the City of Racine to operate a grocery store at 500 Walton Avenue. We are so grateful for the tremendous outpouring of support both from the neighborhood and from our member-owners," the Co-Op released in a prepared statement.

The site - 500 Walton Ave. in on the northwest corner of Walton Ave. and Wisconsin Ave. just west of the Racine Zoo and just north of Goold St. and Main St.

In the process, Wild Root is working to build their membership to 1,500 owners by the time they open for the first time.

Raising the $4 million needed to finance the project, including site renovation is already underway. Wild root is reaching out to national cooperative lenders, local lenders and grant opportunities are being pursued, according to a release published this week by the co-op.

Wild Root stated they have several co-op owners who are human resource professionals currently volunteering on the coop's general manager search committee. The general manager will be in charge of all operation aspects.
