Closures In Racine, Mt. Pleasant, Caledonia: Wednesday Jan. 30

RACINE COUNTY, WI -- Bitterly-cold weather this week has forced the closure of numerous schools and agencies in the Racine area this week, including the Racine Unified School District.

Here is a message posted Tuesday from Racine Unified School District officials:

Due to the record-breaking cold anticipated to begin Tuesday evening, all after-school activities will be cancelled tonight, Tuesday, Jan. 29.

In addition, the Racine Unified School District will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 30. This means that all District schools and buildings will be closed and all after school activities are also canceled for Wednesday.

City Offices To Close

Because wind chills are predicted to be at -49 degrees tomorrow, and because of the safety risk it imposes on residents and staff, Racine Mayor Cory Mason has announced the closure of the Racine City Hall and Annex on Wednesday, Jan. 30, and not opening them until Thursday, Jan.31 at 1 p.m.

County Offices To Close

County Executive Delagrave has announced that Racine County buildings will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 30, and on Thursday morning, Jan. 31, due to the extreme weather conditions forecast for the Racine area. At this time, the reopening of County buildings is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday.

Here is a message from County officials that was received Tuesday afternoon:

We are continuing to monitor the weather. Any updated closures will be posted on the Racine County web site, social media pages and through local media outlets.
