Cops Corner Man After Burlgary, 90 MPH Police Chase ... After He Was Released in Sept. For Similar Crime

A man released on bond in September for receiving stolen property and eluding officers was at it again this week - this time at 90 mph.

RACINE COUNTY, WI — A man who was released on bond in September for receiving stolen property and eluding officers was at it again this week, after he tried breaking in to a Sturtevant man's house and leading police on a chase of speeds up to 90 miles per hour.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Racine County on Feb. 9, Sturtevant police were dispatched to a report of a burglary in progress on the 9400 block of Chandler Ave. in Sturtevant. Police learned that the suspect, later identified as Juan Antonio Rodriguez of Racine, was last seen running east through yards on the 300 block of 94th St. in Sturtevant - just blocks away from the scene.

Police spotted a man matching Rodriguez' description running down 94th st. toward a Honda CRV. Rodriguez reportedly got in the car and took off, initiating a police chase, police said.

The Chase

According to his criminal complaint, Rodriguez sped off south on 94th St., accelerated through the intersection of 94th and Mt. Pleasant Ave., failed to stop at the stop sign, turned east on Mt. Pleasant, blowing through two more stop signs before ultimately reaching Highway 20 at 80 miles per hour.

Rodriguez sped east on Highway 20, getting up to 90 miles per hour as he wove through traffic. Mount Pleasant police joined in the pursuit, police said.

According to police, Rodriguez turned south on Highway 31, striking the curb in the process. It wasn't too much later before police watched as Rodriguez lost control of his Honda CRV, which jumped the center median between Margery Dr. and Joanne Dr.

His vehicle spun around and faced northbound traffic until he turned east on 21st St., jumping the curb and ending up in the Chase Bank parking lot, police said.

According to his criminal complaint, Rodriguez exited the vehicle when he realized he had been cornered - and was not getting away. When police interviewed the home owner in Sturtevant, the owner stated that he had come home to find his garage door open and a man running out of the house.

Police investigated the scene, and found that the front door of the residence was forced open. A large flat-screen TV was found leaning against a couch, and a second TV was found that it had been ripped from a wall. A jewelry box was removed from a dresser and was found on the nearby bed, his criminal complaint stated.
