RACINE, WI — A Racine County Jail Correctional Officer is accused of delivering multiple bags of THC-infused gummies to an inmate at the jail, according to a criminal complaint.

Joseph M Ammons, 30, of Milwaukee, was charged Monday in Racine County Court with misconduct, deliver THC, and two counts of deliver illegal articles to inmate, according to online court records.

The criminal complaint alleges Ammons was acting suspiciously during a shift at the jail on March 2, and that he had insisted on doing his assignments in a specific part of the jail that day. Ammons did a check on a certain cell, despite others telling him it was unnecessary, and told others it was because he saw a blanket hanging up, the complaint says.

Other correctional officers decided to do a shakedown of the cell Ammons had just visited and found under the mattress multiple bags containing 182.5 grams of candies that tested positive for THC, the criminal complaint says. A soda bottle that smelled like intoxicants was also found, the complaint said.

The jail cell had belonged to Donley Carey, who was charged on accusations of 1st-degree intentional homicide, the complaint and online records show.
