Man Arrested After Barricading Self Against Police In Racine: Sheriff

The Racine County Sheriff's Office said they arrested a man on Friday after a standoff in the 4900 block of Byrd Avenue in Racine.

RACINE, WI — The Racine County Sheriff's Office arrested a man in the 4900 block of Byrd Avenue in Racine on Friday afternoon after he barricaded himself in a home, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

Shadaun Marks, 26, was wanted in connection with a parole violation for a previous burglary conviction and a failure to appear in court on a possession of methamphetamine charge in Indiana, according to the sheriff's office.

When authorities tried to arrest Marks, he barricaded himself in the residence near Byrd Avenue and Echo Lane, the sheriff's office said. The incident led to a safety alert being distributed to the public that advised people to stay away from the area.

Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling thanked the public for cooperation as well as the U.S. Marshals Service and the Racine Fire Department in a statement.

The Racine Police Department sent an alert out on Friday around noon saying there is a "critical incident" and asking for residents to avoid the area near Byrd Avenue and Echo Lane in Racine.

In an update to its Facebook post, Racine police said the situation has been resolved and the area is back open. At least one person was taken into custody around 1:45 p.m., according to a report by The Journal Times. Beforehand, several officers with rifles were seen in the area and an officer could be heard on a megaphone telling someone they are under arrest, the report said.

The police alert had initially asked people within two blocks of the area to shelter in place.
