Dating Invite Over 'Plenty of Fish' Site Turns Into Armed Robbery

What was supposed to be an "invitation to chill" through the dating website Plenty of Fish turned into something much worse.

RACINE -- What was supposed to be an "invitation to chill" through the dating website Plenty of Fish turned into an armed robbery.

On Aug. 20, a Kenosha man traveled to the 1200 block of Villa St. in Racine to meet a woman he had met on the dating website Plenty of Fish.

According to a criminal complaint released by the Racine Police Department, the man came up to the back door of the house and instead of finding the woman who invited him, he encountered two men who robbed him at gunpoint.

The two men, Ricardo Perez-Davila, 24, and Darquis Delancy Byers, 20, have been charged with felony armed robbery and if convicted could face up to 25 years in prison or up to $100,000 in fines or both.

According to their criminal complaints, the woman was texting the Kenosha man about meeting up, when Perez-Davila took the woman's phone and began messaging the man in order to "set him up." Police say Perez-Davila and the Kenosha man had been running into an unspecified conflict and that Perez-Davila was planning to "get him."

Police said that Perez-Davila kept the phone away from the woman and would not give it back as he sent messages to orchestrate what would end up being an armed robbery.

According to the complaint, the woman urged Byers not to participate in Perez-Davila's plans, but when it came time for him to meet the Kenosha man, he acted with Perez-Davila during the robbery.

When the Kenosha man came to the Villa Street house, police say Perez-Davila and Byers pointed a gun at the man, and robbed him of his cell phone and cigarettes.

Perez-Davila and Byers are being held in the Racine County Jail on a $2,000 cash bond. Their next hearing is Aug. 31 in court.
