Two men fell through the ice on a pond in Racine County Friday. One made it to safety, however the other was able to survive a daring rescue

MOUNT PLEASANT, WI -- Deputies in Racine County are being credited with saving a man's life in a daring ice-fishing rescue Friday afternoon.
According to the Racine County Sheriff's office, at just after 1:30 p.m. Friday, a Racine County Deputy responded to assist with a drowning in progress on a report that two men had fallen through the ice while ice fishing on the pond at the north end of Airline Road near Razor Sharp Fitness in Mt Pleasant.
Upon arrival, one deputy found one man had made it out of the water, however a second man was struggling to keep his head above the water. Officials say the deputy deployed a rescue throw bag, which is a long rope designed to be thrown to a person in distress. The Deputy also deployed a second rescue throw bag that he provided as part of his own patrol gear.

Officials say the victim was able to grab hold of the rope, however due to his state, he was unable to be pulled from the water. The rope was kept taut by the man being able to keep his head above water. The move allowed him to survive until South Shore fire arrived and was able to complete the dangerous rescue, officials said.
