DNA Evidence Matches Sherrie Lane Burglary to Suspect

MOUNT PLEASANT -- A convicted burglar is in trouble again after police matched DNA evidence to a Mount Pleasant burglary scene.

On Aug. 21, Mount Pleasant police officers were dispatched to 3800 Sherrie Lane for a suspicious person call.

Police were informed that the home owner saw a man come up to her back door and look in. Officers arrived and inspected the home, determining that a burglar entered through the basement window, went upstairs and entered the first floor.

Although nothing was reported missing from inside the home, investigators were able to retrieve blood samples from drops of blood that appeared at the scene of a broken window.

When results from this DNA evidence were returned from the State Crime Lab, they matched to Charles Pfost, a man who had been convicted of burglary in 2010, according to his complaint.

Officers noted that in addition to the Sherrie Lane burglary, officers also recorded similar incidents on the 4600 block of Knollwood Drive, on the 400 block of Mallard Lane on August 22, and on the 3300 block of Pheasant Lane on Aug. 8, his complaint said.

When officers questioned Pfost about the Sherrie Lane burglary, he became uncooperative, stating that he believed he was in Door County for a wedding at the time of the burglary, but "couldn't be sure," his complaint read.

Pfost faces one count of felony burglary and faces up to seven-and-a-half years behind bars. Because he is being charged as a repeater, he could face additional incarceration time.

Pfost is currently being held in the Racine County Jail on a $15,000 cash bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 2.
