Dog Causes Motorcycle Accident: Report

Authorities learned that a 60-year-old motorcycle rider attempted to maneuver around a dog that had suddenly run into traffic.

RACINE COUNTY, WI — As the weather warms up and a holiday weekend comes up, more motorcyclists will be on area roads. In one incident this week, man's best friend was not so friendly after police say a motorcyclist suffered serious injuries after trying to avoid a dog in the roadway late Thursday.

According to Racine County Sheriff's officials, at just after 6:30 p.m. Thursday, authorities learned of an accident involving both a motorcyclist and a dog.

According to reports, deputies and first responders arrived on the scene on the 400 block of Front Street in the Village of Rochester in Racine County and learned that a 60-year-old motorcycle rider attempted to maneuver around a dog that had run into traffic.

Officials said that the driver "subsequently laid the bike down, striking his head on the road." Authorities reported the rider was conscious and coherent upon the arrival of rescue personnel. He was transported to Froedtert Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The dog owner was cited for Dog at Large. The dog was not struck in the accident and fled the area.

Authorities say the names of the individuals involved are not being released at this time.
