Driver Ran Stop Sign In Crash That Seriously Injured 3: Report

Authorities in Racine County say three people were flown by Flight for Life to Froedtert with major injuries as a result of the crash.

RACINE COUNTY, WI — Authorities in Racine County say three people suffered major injuries and were flown by Flight for Life from the scene of a crash on Thursday night in which the driver of one vehicle ran a stop sign.

At just after 9 p.m. on Thursday, Racine County Sheriff's deputies to the intersection of Durand Ave. and English Settlement Ave. in the Town of Burlington on a report of a crash between a Ford pickup truck and a Chrysler Town and Country.

Sheriff's officials said the drivers of both vehicles suffered major injuries and were flown by Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital for treatment. Officials said a 50-year-old Illinois woman was behind the wheel of the Ford pickup truck, and that a 66-year-old woman was behind the wheel of the Town and Country. Authorties said a 70-year-old man was a passenger along with her.

Investigators said the Ford pickup truck was heading south on English Settlement Ave., and ran the stop sign at Durand Ave. It was then hit by the Chrysler Town and Country, which was heading east at the time.

Authorities said each of the three people had to be pulled from the vehicles by first responders before they were loaded aboard the Flight for Life helicopter.

Traffic on this stretch of roadway was shut down for about five hours as emergency workers tended to the crash and conducted their investigation.
