Old World Fourth of July

Old World Wisconsin will host an old-fashioned Fourth of July celebration Monday, July 4, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will feature festivities that honor rural villages in 19th-century Wisconsin, when the Fourth of July events were the high point of summer.

A cannon firing will signal the opening and closing of the museum. Among the day's activities will be trotting races by the Morgan Horse Association, held in the German area of Old World. The Harmony Cornet Band will play patriotic music of the 19th century, and guests are welcome to take part in a tug-of-war contest. A 1:30 pm parade featuring the Goddess of Liberty, the Missing Link, Suffragettes and others is also scheduled. Contests include sack races, an egg toss, horseshoes, pick-up sticks, lotto and more. Homemade lemonade samples will be offered, and a Country Picnic buffet with cider roast chicken, creamy cucumber and onion salad, country white bread with jam, sliced watermelon, vanilla cake, sweet tea and other old-fashioned favorites is planned.

Admission to Old World Wisconsin is $16 for adults, $14 for students and senior citizens (65 and older), $9 for children 5-17 or $43 for families (up to two adults and two or more dependent children ages 5-17).
