Man Beat, Killed Ex-Girlfriend Hours Before Dying On I-94: Report

RACINE COUNTY, WI — Authorities have identified the man who died in last week's fiery crash in Racine County, and they say he is also likely the person responsible for a killing his ex-girlfriend in Rockford, Illinois.

Winnebago County sheriff's officials are reporting that 30-year-old Elmer Aguilar was behind the wheel of 24-year-old Destiny Tolodxi's 2006 Pontiac G6 GT when he crashed into a piece of construction equipment near Highway K in Racine County and died in the fiery crash. According to authorities, Aguilar was previously in a relationship with Tolodxi before she broke the relationship off. Authorities said Aguilar had been Stalking Tolodxi before ultimately killing her.

Authorities said Tolodxi died from blunt force trauma to the head, including a skull fracture and a broken nose. Following an investigation, sheriff's officials said they believe Aguilar beat Tolodxi to death. They also said Aguilar was in the U.S. illegally.

According to authorities, on Friday, April 20 at about 7 a.m., Aguilar made a call to relatives that he had been in an incident with Tolodxi.

A few hours later, authorities reported that Aguilar drove Tolodxi's 2006 Pontiac G6 GT south on I-41/94 near Highway K in Racine County when the driver's side front tire fell off, causing the vehicle to pull sharply to the left.

The car continued through barricades into the construction area where it struck an unattended excavator and burst into flames. The driver, identified days later using toll camera photos, was the only occupant of the vehicle, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Illinois Winnebago County Sheriff's office, Tolodxi was found at about 4 p.m. Friday dead in her home.
