It doesn't just happen in the movies.

RACINE, WI -- It doesn't just happen in the movies. A nine-year-old Racine boy is recovering Wednesday afternoon after fire department officials say he got his tongue stuck to a pole.
According to a CBS 58 report, the Racine Fire Department was called to the area of 17th and Republic on Racine's South Side on Wednesday morning.
Fire officials say it was not clear what happened before the boy's tongue became stuck to the pole.

There are a number of ways to un-stick your tongue from a metal pole during the winter. Pouring a cup of cool water over the tongue should be enough to loosen the tongue from the pole. You'd think warm water would do the trick, but science says that warm water freezes more quickly than cool water. Another option is to have your child breathe on the pole. The warmth and moisture may be enough to help un-stick the tongue.
And much like that scene from A Christmas Story, don't forcibly pull the tongue from the pole - it will tear the tissue and result in bleeding.
