Foxconn Rises From The Ground

The 120,000-square foot building- the first of many - is scheduled to be complete in Winter 2018-19.

MOUNT PLEASANT, WIS. – Roughly 11 months after the Village of Mount Pleasant and Racine County were named as the future home of Foxconn, local officials and representatives from M+W | Gilbane staged their "opening ceremony" as construction crews began lifting 35-foot tall, pre-fabricated panels into place.

The panels – 120 in total – are being installed to create the main structure of the Multipurpose Building in Area I of the Foxconn Project Site. They represent the first part of Foxconn's $10 billion electronics manufacturing plant rising from ground-level.

The start of vertical construction on the Multipurpose Building marks a significant milestone for the Foxconn project. The 120,000-square foot building is scheduled to be complete in Winter 2018-19.

“Today marks yet another major milestone as the first vertical construction begins on the Foxconn project site,” said County Executive Jonathan Delagrave. “Looking around at the companies and people working on this site, you quickly see the statewide impact of this effort. This project represents new jobs and new careers, and we are excited to continue building our community, just as Foxconn continues to build its campus.”

The size and scope of the proposed project is staggering: The roughly 20-million-square-foot plant will be located just north of County Line Road and just east of I-94 in Mount Pleasant in southern Racine County, according to local officials. That expanse is bordered by Braun Road to the north and Highway H to the east.
