Gas Tank Getaways: Greenfield's Konkel Park Has Something For Everyone
It is the crown jewel of the Greenfield Parks and Recreation Department's stable of parks.
Konkel Park is in the heart of Greenfield and its spacious facilities offer a little bit of everything for everyone. For the kids, there are two large playground facilities, and for the adults, there are softball diamonds, sand volleyball courts and biking/walking trails. And for the romantic couple looking for a quick getaway, the conveniently located near on/off ramps of Interstate 894, have ample grounds for a picnic.
Where: Konkel Park is easy to find. For those coming to the area on the interstate, hop off I-894 at 60th Street and head south to Layton Avenue. Turn east on Layton and Konkel is just a few blocks down at 5151 W. Layton Ave., just across the street from the city's library and Law Enforcement Center.

When: Konkel Park is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
How much: It is free to attend Konkel Park and use its facilities, but rentals are also available. Find more information on the Parks and Recreation Department website.

Special treat: Dan Jansen Family Fest is held over Memorial Day weekend, and the city's Fourth of July celebration is held here as well, but for an average day getaway type, the park's walking and biking and nature trails with a board walk, wetland overlook area and 100-foot pedestrian bridge are must-sees.
