Heroin Couple Living With Baby in Car Arrested

A couple living out of their car with their infant has been arrested after reportedly exhausting the last of their heroin the night before.

UNION GROVE, WI — A couple living out of their car with their infant has been arrested after reportedly exhausting the last of their heroin the night before.

On June 4, a Racine County Sheriff's deputy made contact with couple Jessica Hughes and Erik Kopidlowski after being dispatched to the area of Center St. and 15th Ave. in Union Grove on a report of a couple sleeping in the car with an infant, their criminal complaint read.

According to their criminal complaint, Klopidlowski was sleeping in the front seat with Hughes beside him. Hughes had an infant child sleeping in her lap.

The report states that the couple told deputies that they were homeless and living out of their car.

The deputy reported the vehicle smelled of wet, dirty laundry and old spoiled food as he conducted the police call.

According to the criminal complaint, Klopidlowski initially provided false information to the deputy, at first stating a false name before admitting his real name. He later informed the deputy he provided false information because he had an active warrant for his arrest.

According to the criminal complaint, both he and Hughes had numerous needle "track" marks on their arms.

According to the criminal complaint, when deputies investigated, they recovered a burnt spoon and cotton ball, along with an orange cap from a syringe in the vehicle. Both admitted to having used heroin late into the previous night and that there was no heroin left in the vehicle because they had used all of it. Klopidlowski admitted that he used the spoon to cook the heroin inside the vehicle.

Hughes and Klopidlowski have both been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Klopidlowski has additionally been charged with obstructing an officer.
