Highway 31 Construction Woes: 'It's ridiculous!'

MOUNT PLEASANT, WI — Road construction along Highway 31 in Mount Pleasant is anything but pleasant.

Lane closures have choked traffic back during rush hours, resulting in lengthy delays - especially during rush hour. Motorists have become accustomed to waiting for 2-3 traffic light cycles just to get through some of the busiest intersections, and don't get us started when it comes to Highway 31 and Spring St.

On Thursday, we asked Patch.com readers what their detours were, and this is what they said:

"Taking the long way around 16 to emmertsen to Hwy 38 and reversed. I live on the north side of town and it's awful to get to the South Side for anything."

"I'm not telling, lol then everyone will go that way."

"Traffic is going to be just as bad when they are done with construction."

"Newman Rd southbound sometimes is backed up more than a quarter mile. Tis the season."

"I take the long way around going north on Newman to Spring, Spring to Emmertsen then south to 16th. Same route going home. Seems long maybe but better than sitting in long line, that wastes more gas and time."

"I can barely get out of work safely because people are backed up from 31/20 and blocking the next intersection to the west even on a red light.... It's ridiculous."
