Illinois Man Busted Trying to Arrange Sex With 9-Year-Old Girl in Racine County

A 31-year-old Illinois man is facing multiple sex crime charges after Racine County Sheriff investigators conducted an undercover operation.

WISCONSIN -- A 31-year-old Illinois man is facing multiple sex crime charges after Racine County Sheriff's investigators conducted an undercover operation to apprehend the man.

According to Racine County Sheriff's investigators, 31-year-old David M. Baker of Cook County, Illinois traveled to Wisconsin on Thursday in an attempt to exchange child pornography with an unknown suspect and engage in sexual activity with a 9-year-old girl.

Officials said Baker made the arrangements and traveled to an unspecified location in Racine County to make the transaction Thursday. When he arrived, instead of a pornography swap and an illicit encounter with an elementary-school-aged girl, he found Racine County Sheriff's deputies waiting to arrest him.

Baker was conveyed to the Racine County Jail without incident and is being held on suspicion of numerous felony charges, including possession of child pornography and sexual assault of a child. According to online jail records, Baker is being held on a recommended $550,000 cash bond.

Baker's actual bond amound and formal charges are expected later Friday.

Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling stated “Although these types of investigations are lengthy and resource intensive, they are some of the most important cases related to the safety of our communities and our children.” Furthermore, “It is ensuring the safety of our children that strengthens the resolve and commitment of this office in the continued pursuit of these types of offenders”.

The investigation into this matter is ongoing and there is no additional information available at this time.
