iPhone Builder Foxconn Looking for 1,000 Acres in Racine County

The day after news that Foxconn was looking at sites in the Racine and Kenosha area, a new report confirms they're looking for 1,000 acres.

RACINE, WI — The day after news was leaked that popular iPhone manufacturer Foxconn could be looking at Racine or Kenosha counties, one media report says the electronic giant is looking for a 1,000-acre site in Racine County.

According to a report by the Racine County Eye - the best collection of information for Racine County on this story - Caledonia and Mount Pleasant could be potential sites since both communities have worked on installing water and sewer projects out to Interstate 94.

Media reports indicate that a potential site in Kenosha County in Pleasant Prairie isn't large enough, likely ruling out Racine's neighbor to the south.

Yesterday, a Milwaukee Business Journal report indicated that, Foxconn, a world-leading consumer electronics manufacturer that builds smartphones for Apple and Blackberry among others, is considering bringing thousands of jobs to Wisconsin, and was looking at locations in Kenosha and Racine counties as a potential landing spot.

The Business Journal says it could mean thousands of new Jobs.

50,000 Jobs

The Associated Press is reporting that Foxconn is in talks with Gov. Walker to build a plant in Wisconsin. Foxconn is stating that the plant itself could employ a startling figure - up to 50,000 people. President Donald Trump hinted that Gov. Scott Walker might get “a very happy surprise very soon, after Trump visited Milwaukee, then Waukesha on Tuesday.

According to a Wisconsin State Journal Report, the number of jobs added to the state economy under Walker’s job-creation agency since 2011 totals 45,607.
According to a WTMJ Report, Trump said, "Just backstage, we were negotiating with a major, major incredible manufacturer of phones and computers and televisions and I think they’re going to give the governor a very happy surprise very soon."

Walker flew to Japan in early June but has not publicly stated the reason for the trip. Foxconn has publicly stated they are considering spending $4 billion on a U.S. factory.
