The apparent victim told police he confronted Funderburg about his relationship with Funderburg's wife. The victim stated that a physical altercation between the group and Funderburg took place, at which point Funderburg pulled out a gun, the complaint said.

According to the criminal complaint, Funderburg's wife reportedly started a relationship with the shooting victim while her husband was incarcerated. Funderburg had been convicted of two felony counts of manufacturing and delivering cocaine in March 2015.

During the argument, Funderburg's wife reportedly was standing nearby and urged the victim to leave because Funderburg had a gun and was "gonna shoot," police reported.

According to the complaint, Funderburg fired the gun as the apparent victim fled, striking him in the back of the leg. His cousin picked him up and drove him to the hospital.
