After Racist Review, Community Stands Up For Pakistani Diner

A negative Google review deemed racist moved a local Pakistani restaurant owner to tears. A day later, the local community showed their love

RACINE, WI β€” When a negative Google restaurant review was posted about a local Pakistani restaurant, it moved the restaurant's owner to tears. A day later, the Racine community showed support, overflowing the restaurant with people ready to eat.

According to a Racine County Eye report, Jacob Francis posted a poor Google Review of Kabab & Grill, 1327 Washington Ave., on Monday saying that he wouldn’t eat there because it was owned by Muslims and he encouraged others to β€œsupport Americans, not eastern invaders.”

Restaurant owner Umar Nirman posted the negative review on Facebook, and the Racine community responded with overwhelming support. According to a WTMJ report, the restaurant Kabab and Grill at 1327 Washington Ave. saw an overflow of customer support Tuesday. People packed the restaurant's interior and the line stretched out the door as people came to show support.

"Racine people know us since we are open. We don't mind somebody put a negative review or positive reviews. This is only one person..." Nirman said through tears in a WTMJ report. "That kind of thing hurt first."
