The man told a hotel clerk he was doing a "sting operation" but police say he was not actually an officer

MOUNT PLEASANT, WI — A Racine man is accused of impersonating a police officer during a visit to a hotel on the 13300 block of Hospitality Court Sunday around 3:47 p.m., the Mount Pleasant Police Department said Sunday in a news release.
The man told a hotel worker he was a police officer working on a "sting operation," adding he was looking for people who may have checked into the hotel, police said in a news release. The man gave the hotel worker a badge number and showed a badge, but police say the man was not actually a police officer, and he had never been one.
Police arrested the man and brought him to the Racine County Jail, charging him with impersonating a peace officer, according to the news release. Police identified the accused as 32-year-old Steven Simonsen.
