Man Tries To Bite, Choke Police Dog: Report

Reports stated that Leland O'Malley attempted to choke and bite K9 Officer Murphy as he and the police dog wrestled on the ground.

RACINE COUNTY, WI — Authorities in Racine County arrested a 44-year-old man, who in the process of his apprehension, wrestled a police dog to the ground in an attempt to bite and choke the K9 officer.

The incident began just before midnight on March 19 in the Town of Dover, according to Racine County Sheriff's officials. A person called authorities, reporting that 44-year-old Leland O'Malley of Walworth County was banging on the windows and doors of a house, trying to get in. According to reports, O'Malley was intoxicated, and not welcome inside the building.

Upon the arrival of Racine County Sheriff deputies, they found O'Malley outside and still banging on windows and yelling. One of the deputies was K9 handler Deputy Dave Fisher,who had his K9 partner, Murphy, with him. Authorities said that O'Malley was not following directions and at one point charged Fisher, who then released Murphy.

Reports indicated that Murphy was able to stop O'Malley's advance with a bite to his right arm, which took him to the ground.

Reports went on to document that O'Malley then attempted to choke and bite Murphy as he and the police dog wrestled on the ground. Authorities say Deputy Fisher was able to enter the fray, and was able to get Murphy out of O'Malley's grasp, who was then handcuffed.

O'Malley is currently being held in the Racine County Jail on suspicion of two counts of Disorderly Conduct, one count of Resisting Arrest and one count of Striking a Police Animal.
