Man Was Part Of $1 Million Jewelry Theft Ring: Police

Court records show that Catrell Weekly has also been convicted of 53 charges dating back to the mid-1980s

RACINE, WI — Police say a man currently in custody in the Racine County Jail is actually part of a jewelry theft ring sought by U.S. Marshals that is responsible for more than $1 million in thefts across the U.S.

Catrell Weekly has been charged in Racine County Circuit Court with felony theft in excess of $10,000 as a party to the crime.

Court records show that Weekly has also been convicted of 53 charges dating back to the mid-1980s including multiple theft and robbery charges.

According to a criminal complaint re-issued on March 29 in Racine County, Weekly is accused of stealing more than $17,000 worth of jewelry from the Shaw's Jewelers in Jan. 2014.

According to the criminal complaint, Weekly came into the store on the day of Jan. 25, 2014 to see a variety of wedding bands. He was with a woman posing as an engaged couple. The clerk at Shaw's told police that she began showing the couple wedding bands from their case when the theft took place.

According to the criminal complaint, Weekly and his female accomplice distract the clerk as the third suspect reached into an open case and removed a wedding set - putting it in his pocket behind the back of the clerk while she was distracted by Weekly and the woman.

According to authorities in Racine County, Weekly is part of a particular group of people that have been traveling across the U.S. committing jewelry heists in multiple stores, and are responsible for approximately $1 million in losses to jewelry stores. In addition, authorities say that the U.S. Marshals are actively pursuing the arrest of this group - of which Weekly is a member.
