As Mother Lay Unconscious, 10-Year-Old Girl Calls Police on Abusive Man

A 10-year-old girl called police after a man knocked her mother out because he wanted to drink instead celebrate her daughter's birthday.

RACINE, WI — A 10-year-old girl called police on her birthday as her mother lay unconscious after her mother's boyfriend reportedly knocked her unconscious because he wanted to go drinking instead of celebrating her daughter's birthday.

That boyfriend, 44-year-old Perry Carothers of Plymouth, Wis. has been arrested and is being held in the Racine County jail.

According to his criminal complaint, Racine police responded to a home on the 800 block of 12th St. on Racine's south side on Dec. 10. Upon arrival, police made contact with the girl's mother, who stated that her boyfriend, Perry Carother, assaulted her and then left before police arrived.

She told police that she and Carothers began arguing because it was her daughter's 10th birthday today and she was making plans to celebrate. Carothers reportedly stated he wanted to go drinking instead, and in fact had already been drinking that day, his criminal complaint stated.

According to the criminal complaint, Carothers made threatening remarks to the girl's mother - who then instructed her 10-year-old daughter to have the phone ready and to call police if needed.

According to police, this action provoked Carothers, who reportedly grabbed the girl's mother by the neck, pushed her against the wall and threw her body to the floor - causing her to lose consciousness for approximately 1-2 minutes.

Police said that the girl's mother woke up with her children standing over her trying to wake her and Carothers had left the scene.
