Mount Pleasant Offers Full Schedule of Summer Sports

From daytime playgrounds to kickball and softball, the village has something for just about everyone.

Kids who want to participate in a summer sport have no shortage of opportunity this year in Mount Pleasant. From one-day clinics to full seasons of kickball, volleyball and softball, there's something for just about everyone.

Registration has officially ended for all sports except softball. An extended deadline of April 1 is in place for girls and boys ages six to 18 to play on 14-member teams. A coaches meeting is set for May 10, and practice will begin shortly thereafter. Games will begin at the beginning of June. Registration is $30 for residents and $40 for non-residents.

According to Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Pulda, there are about 800 children already registered.

"We usually have about 1,000 kids participating in the programs each year," he said. "And we're very lucky to have parents who volunteer to coach and be assistant coaches year after year."

Additional programming includes volleyball and kickball that run on Saturdays from June 18 to August 6, a drop-off playgrounds program, and one-day clinics.

Volleyball is designed for kids going into sixth to ninth grades. Registration costs $15 for both residents and non-residents, and games are played between 11 am and 12:30 pm.

Kickball has two levels; for third to fifth-graders and sixth- to eight-graders. Registration is $30 for residents and $40 for non-residents, and games are played between 1 and 2:15 pm.

Drop-off playgrounds runs from 8:45 to 11:30 am or 12:45 to 3:30 pm for kids four to seven years old. Costs are $40 resident or $60 non-resident and runs from June 15 to August 4, Monday through Thursday.

Two, one-day clinics for tennis and golf are also part of the village's summer programming offerings for $10 each. Tennis - from 1 to 3 pm at Racine Tennis Club on June 11- has 40 spaces, but only 7 are still free.

Golf is full for ages 7 to 10, but still has room for 9 children ages 11 to 14. That clinic is scheduled for 10 am to 12 pm on June 27 at Ives Grove.

Residents are encouraged to register soon if they still want to participate.

"I'm really happy with how well received the programs are this year," Pulda added.
