Mount Pleasant Runners May Slosh Through the Mud Next Summer

Contestants will wade through mud, jump through tires, over a wall and ... enjoy a beer along the way!

Getting dragged through the mud will get a lot more fun when runners slosh through the Dirty Dog Mud Run.

Possibly coming to in June 2012, the Dirty Dog Mud Run will be an eight kilometer (4.8 miles) obstacle course, well, through the mud.

Sean Osborne, race director for Silver Circle Sports Events, was on hand with Kari Dawson from Real Racine to explain it all.

"The goal is bring people to the area, to stay at local hotels and spend money here," Osborne told the Mount Pleasant Park and Recreation Committee on Sept. 29.

Silver Circle bears all the cost for the event, too, including permits, construction, insurance, and covering overtime for any police and EMS services, he added. Click here to see what the Lake Country Mud Run looks like, another event Osborne is organizing.

Runners will follow a path that will most likely begin at Mount Pleasant Village Hall or in the vicinity, go around the area proposed for ball diamonds, possibly into Smolenski Park and around the pond there, and through an adjacent farm field. Along the way, there will be long trenches of mud, tires to go through and around, a wall to climb over and, possibly, a beer station along the way.

Committee members voted to allow the proposal to move forward. Osborne may appear before the Village Board in October to ask for their support.
