RACINE, WI — A wrong way driver collided with another car and sustained severe injuries on Interstate 94 near Highway 11 in Racine County Sunday night, according to the Racine County Sheriff's Office.

People in the other car, a Chevy Equinox, sustained minor injuries. The wrong way driver was in a red Kia Soul. Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling said in a news release the Sheriff's Office received reports of the wrong way driver just before the accident.

Sheriff's deputies were headed to the scene when they received report that the Kia, headed southbound in northbound lanes, crashed into another car near the Highway 11 off ramp.

The driver of the red Kia Soul is a 30-year-old woman from Waukegan, Illinois, Schmaling said in the news release. The driver was trapped in the car when first responders arrived.

"The Operator of the Kia Soul was transported via flight for life to Froedtert Memorial Hospital with severe injuries. This accident is still under investigation, but alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor to the accident," Schmaling said.
