Naked, High Man Arrested Outside After Stabbing Mother: Police

According to police, Terrell Banks said he smoked pot, became paranoid and thought his mom was there to rape him.

RACINE, WI — Racine police say a man was arrested wandering his neighborhood while naked following an attempt to stab and kill his own mother.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Racine County, Terrell Banks, 23, has been charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide, mayhem. Both charges carried a domestic abuse modifier which may mean additional incarceration time if he is convicted. If he is convicted, Banks could face up to 65 years behind bars.

According to the criminal complaint, just after 1 p.m. on Feb. 2, police received a report that a woman entered the Dollar Store at 3900 Erie St. She was bloody and looking for help.

Police say officers arrived and determined the woman had been stabbed multiple times, and said that her son, Terrell Banks, was the one who stabbed her. Police reported that Banks was located a short time later wandering naked in the 2700 block of LaSalle St. where he was arrested.

According to the criminal complaint, the woman was transported to the hospital where staff treated six cut-type wounds to her head and eyes in addition to three deeper wounds on her left arm and side.

The woman told police that she had just come home from running erands with her mother when she entered the home and saw Banks sitting in his room. She reportedly called out to him, the complaint stated. The complaint stated that Banks jumped up, and ran straight at her and proceeded to slash and stab her with a knife.

Police say that the woman fought back, and managed to get the knife from Banks, only to pass out. She came to, and fled the home with the knife, ending up at the Dollar Store.

According to the criminal complaint, following his arrest, Banks told police that he smoked about four grams of marijuana and admitted to becoming paranoid. He told police that he smoked before, but never had a paranoid reaction before.

The complaint continues, saying that Banks grabbed a knife and searched the house to make sure nobody was inside. He sat down to meditate, when the door opened. He told police that his mother walked in and he believed she was there to rape him.

Banks told police that after stabbing his mother, he walked out of the house and "toward the sun," adding that he felt if he stopped walking he would get raped. He told police that he recalled taking his clothes off because he believed he was "about to fly," the criminal complaint stated.

Banks is being held on a $25,000 cash bond in the Racine County Jail. His next hearing is Valentine's Day - Feb. 14 at 8:30 a.m.
