Officer Fires Gun At Suspect Who Tried Running Him Over: Report

Police say the suspect, who is wanted by police for another crime, is still on the run.

RACINE, WI -- Police in Racine say one of the department's officers fired his gun at an oncoming car after a wanted person reportedly intended to run the officer over with the vehicle.

According to the Racine Police Department, officers were investigating a wanted person in the 1600 block of Boyd Ave. on Racine's south side. Police said as an officer exited his squad car, the wanted man got into his own vehicle and accelerated toward the officer.

Police said the officer discharged his gun at the oncoming car, which then fled the scene. Police in Racine said neither the vehicle nor the suspect have been found, and are on the run.

Police said the officer is a five-year veteran of the department. He was not injured, and will be temporarily placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing, police said in the news release.
