Police Identify Man Who Tried Running Officer Over: Report

Police say 20-year-old Hunter Hanson is considered armed and dangerous and is on the run. The officer fired gunshots at the oncoming car.

RACINE, WI -- Police in Racine say a 20-year-old man is considered armed and dangerous after a Dec. 20 incident in which the man attempted to run over a police officer with his car.

According to the Racine Police Department, officers were investigating a wanted person in the 1600 block of Boyd Ave. on Racine's south side on Dec. 20. Police said as an officer exited his squad car, the wanted man, identified Thursday as 20-year-old Hunter Hanson, got into his own vehicle and accelerated toward the officer.

Police said the officer fired his gun at the oncoming car, which then fled the scene. Police in Racine said neither the vehicle nor Hanson have been found, and are on the run.

Police said the officer is a five-year veteran of the department. He was not injured, and will be temporarily placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing, police said in the news release.
