Vehicle In Police Chase Found Off Road In Racine County, Man Injured

A pursuit involving Franklin and Oak Creek police ended in Racine Thursday morning with one person in critical condition, officials said.

RACINE COUNTY — An Oak Creek police chase ended with a man in critical condition, a vehicle off the road, and hours of road closures in Racine County on US-45 as police investigated early Thursday morning.

Officers from Oak Creek saw the vehicle driving recklessly on West Puetz Road and began to chase it, but the vehicle kept driving, police said in a news release. Officers from the Franklin Police Department used spikes on the vehicle's tires, but the vehicle continued with deflated tires and police ended the pursuit in Yorkville on US-45, according to the news release.

Police followed the direction the vehicle was headed and found it off the roadway. Police said a man needed medical attention and officers helped until medical units arrived. The man was brought to a hospital where he remains in critical condition, police said.

The chase ended with a closure of US-45 around 6 a.m. Thursday morning between Highway 20 and Highway K, according to the Racine County Sheriff's Office. The road has since re-opened, according to a report. The sheriff's office said one person was taken into custody.

The Wauwatosa Police Department and the Milwaukee Area Investigative Team are investigating the incident, Oak Creek police said.
