Pot-Fueled 2-County Joyride Ends In Arrests: Police

A Milwaukee man has been charged after leading police on a high-speed chase with 6 passengers, one as young as 14 years old, police say.

RACINE COUNTY, WI — A 30-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested at gunpoint in Racine County after authorities say he led police on a high-speed chase from Franklin into Racine with several passengers - some as young as 14 years old.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Racine County, on April 20 just after 6:30 p.m., Racine County Sheriff's deputies were called to the area of I-94 near 8-mile-road after a vehicle driven by Jaquan M. Collins eluded authorities in Franklin.

The high-speed chase ended up causing damage to Collins' vehicle, making it practically undrivable. Collins' vehicle was eventually stopped near the intersection of Highways K and H after a police chase, the responding officer drew his firearm as he approached the vehicle, the complaint stated.

According to police, the officer first saw a 14-year-old child exit the van. He appeared to be crying as he raised his hands up at the sight of the officer. Other responding officers ordered all of the van's occupants - six in total - to lay on the ground with their hands behind their backs.

According to the criminal complaint, when police searched the vehicle, they found items that had been stolen from throughout Milwaukee County, including 5-Hour Energy drinks, cans of Red Bull, packages of toilet paper, cell phone accessories, headphones and bottles of alcohol in the cabin. Another officer reported finding multiple empty bags of synthetic marijuana in a driver's door compartment.

According to court records, Collins has been convicted of multiple marijuana possession charges, bail jumping, disorderly conduct and operating with a suspended license.

Collins has been charged with fleeing an officer, six charges of recklessly endangering safety — all as a repeat offender, and possession of a synthetic cannabinoid.

If convicted, Collins faces in excess of 45 years prison. He is currently being held in the Racine County Jail on a $15,000 cash bond.
