Racine Lutheran’s Trap Team Wins Awards

Racine Lutheran High School’s Trap Team competed in the SCTP Upper Midwest Regional/ Beaver Dam Invitational Shoot during May, winning the Team Lewis Class D Runner-up Award. Josh Balke, Joe Foley, Matthew Lovdahl, Tyler Vance, and John Zaiser comprised the team.   

In June, 27 students  from the Racine Lutheran Trap Team competed in the Southeast Wisconsin SCTP Trap Conference Shootout. Senior Dan Roeder finished second overall and became the Varsity Champion and the Lewis Class AAA Champion, surpassing 180 other shooters with a score of 98/100 targets broken. Junior Varsity shooter John Pintar earned the Lewis Class A Champion Award, with an 86/100 score. Varsity shooter Emma Lillich became the Lewis Class D Champion, with a score of 65/100.

Trap shooting is a competitive sport in which team members use shotguns to fire at clay targets—called clay pigeons—released into the air on command. Judges grade teams on accuracy in hitting the moving targets from various positions.

The only area school to sponsor a trap team, Racine Lutheran has quadrupled its program in recent years to include about 30 students. Teens from outside the school are also welcome to join. Students shoot competitively in a 13 -team conference with 600 students.
