Racine Man Beats Mother of Newborn Child Four Days After Birth: Police

A Racine man has been arrested and charged after police say he assaulted the mother of his child4 days after she gave birth to their baby.

RACINE, WI — A Racine man has been arrested and charged after police say he assaulted the mother of his child four days after she gave birth to their baby.

According to the criminal complaint, Anthony Golden, 23, had been staying with the mother of their newborn child in her apartment on Anthony Lane in Racine after the child's birth on May 18. Four days later, Golden reportedly got upset with the mother while she was holding their baby.

The complaint stated that he began following her around the room while she was holding their baby, yelling at her and flicking her in the head with his fingers.

Police said that when the mother put the baby down for bed, Golden began throwing her against the walls, punching her and slapping her in the face.

At one point, the mother attempted to call police, but Golden grabbed it out of her hand and broke it in half, the complaint stated. He reportedly also began to choke her as she lay on the bed right next to their newborn child.

According to the criminal complaint, the mother managed to flee the apartment and call police.

The complaint states that police found Golden walking outside the apartment after the incident when he fled police, exiting and entering several yards, jumping over several fencies while police chased him on foot.

According to his complaint, Golden entered a yard near the intersection of Jean Ave. and Romayne Ave. where he barricaded himself in a garage. When a concerned resident pointed out the garage where Golden was hiding, police set up a perimeter until he came out and was arrested.

According to court documents, Golden reportedly refused to appear at his initial appearance. He is currently being held in the Racine County jail.
