First Unionized Campaign
The Bryce campaign made headlines this week when they announced that they had unionized and ratified what is considered to be the first collective bargaining contract negotiated by political campaign staffers.
According to a Huffington Post article, the Campaign Workers Guild approached Bryce’s campaign staff about unionizing after one of the union’s founders, went to work for Bryce as his campaign’s digital director.
The contract extends protections to staffers - who are often known to put in 80-100 hours a week during the height of campign season - that include paid sick leave, holidays, other PTO, health care coverage, disciplinary due process and layoff advance notice in addition to others.
Bryce, known on Twitter as the "IronStache" is a union ironworker who is a strong supporter of organized labor.
