Recycle Aluminum Cans, Help Fund K-9 Officers In Racine County

Through the Cans for K-9 Cops program, Miller Compressing is donating hundreds of dollars to Racine County departments. Here's how to do it:

MOUNT PLEASANT, WI — The financial kickback for recycling a pound of aluminum cans is hovering between 50 and 60 cents in the area, but at one local recycler, for every can donated, some money goes toward supporting Police K-9 Officers in Racine County.

That's because Miller Compressing, 3056 Hamilton Ave. in Mount Pleasant is participating in the Cans for K-9 Cops program.

Between now and September, every time you bring in aluminum cans for recycling, a portion of the value of those cans goes toward helping fund Police K-9 Officers across Racine County. And 100 percent of those donations go back to the Racine County K9 officers.

In addition, Memorial Scrap, a division of Alter Trading, said they would initially match the final dollar amount - only to blow it away. According to official 2017 numbers from the Cans for K9 Cops program, $941.06 was raised through the aluminum can donations. Then, Alter Trading committed an additional $1,500 to the cause.

Last year, the Racine police department used their donation funds to help provide equipment for their K-9 officers in addition to saving a few of those dollars toward the future purchase of a new K-9 officer.
