Report: Ascension Slashes Mental Health Care in Southeastern Wisconsin
Hospital bed shortage in Racine/Kenosha for those suffering mental health emergencies now more capable of impacting facilities elsewhere.

RACINE COUNTY -- Ascension, the health care company planning to take over all Wheaton Franciscan operations in Southeastern Wisconsin, has made deep cuts in its mental health units here.
According to a report from the Racine County Eye, the Mental Health and Addiction Care Group in Racine have seen numerous cuts leaving 16 beds available for people needing hospitalization for a mental health crisis in a coverage area of 363,000 people - down from 54 beds just a few years ago.
The Racine County Eye, which broke this story, reported that inadequate space in Southeastern Wisconsin can spill into neighboring municipalities - especially when there's not enough beds for people with mental health crises or if they are refused access here.
