Volunteers Sought for The Biggest Loser RunWalk

           You can be part of The Biggest Loser RunWalk as a volunteer!  This nationally known event is coming to Racine the weekend of Sept. 20-22.

            The Biggest Loser RunWalk, which includes both a 5k and a half-marathon, is expected to bring about 2,000 participants to Festival Park, 5 Fifth St. Groups and individuals are welcome to volunteer, according to Kari Dawson, Real Racine events director and The Biggest Loser RunWalk Racine race director. Everyone who volunteers will receive a commemorative t-shirt.

            Volunteers are needed for the following assignments:

·         Stuffing runner goody bags on Friday, Sept. 20 from 1-3 p.m. at Festival Hall.  Minimum age is 14. About 10 to 15 volunteers will be needed.

·         Runner check-in on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Festival Park. Minimum age is 16. About 20 to 25 volunteers will be needed. Volunteers may be seated or standing to check in participants and distribute goody bags. In addition to t-shirts, volunteers will receive lunch and soft drinks.

·         Runner check-in, gear check area and merchandise store on Sunday, Sept. 22 from 5:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Minimum age 16. About 25 volunteers will be needed. Volunteers may be seated or standing to check in participants and distribute goody bags. Gear check volunteers will accept runner gear, organize it and return to the participants after the races.

·         Finish line on Sunday, Sept. 22 from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Minimum age 10 if part of a chaperoned group (must be at least 18 to handle food). About 25-30 volunteers needed to congratulate finishers, hand out medals, hand out bottled water, set up and distribute food to finishers in a secure zone, direct runners from finish to festival area.

·         Aid stations on Sunday, Sept. 22.  Minimum age 12, with adult chaperones. Volunteers will distribute water and Gatorade at aid stations along both running courses and handle clean-up after the event. About 70 volunteers needed to staff seven aid stations. Groups will receive a $250 donation for management of an aid station.

·         Inspiration stations on Sunday, Sept. 22. Any age welcome but must be 18 to use the microphone. Four stations will be set up along the courses to encourage and inspire the runners/walkers. Groups are free to be creative with costumes, decorations, etc. About 40 volunteers needed.
