Walmart Assault Suspect Tased After Saying Racial Insults: Report

Police say a man at Walmart hurled racially-charged insults at a group and tried to punch a girl. The situation went downhill from there.

MOUNT PLEASANT, WI -- Police in Mount Pleasant say they needed to tase an unruly fight suspect after he hurled insults at a group of people at Walmart and was subsequently beaten up by a person he reportedly insulted.

According to Mount Pleasant police, officers responded to a report of eight people fighting at Wal-Mart, located at 3049 S. Oakes Rd.

Police said that an officer arriving to the scene had one of the apparent combatants pointed out to him by multiple witnesses. Police say that person, 18-year-old Zachary Holtz, was arrested, but not before he had to be tased.

Police say they learned Holtz was walking past a group of people and started to hurl racially-charged insults at the group. An argument ensued and Holtz attempted to punch a girl from the group, prompting a man in the group assault Holtz, police said.

Police said Holtz was attempting to leave when officers arrived. Police say when Holtz saw officers, he took off his shoes and attempted to flee the scene. The Officer told him to stop, and then when Holtz failed to follow his commands, deployed an electronic Taser gun to stop him from fleeing.

Police say Holtz was treated by South Shore Rescue and then transported to Racine County jail. Other suspects involved in the fight reportedly left the scene prior to officer arrival. This case remains under investigation by the Mount Pleasant Police Department.
