Wisconsin Man Shot Dog In Head, Threw Body In Trash: Police

According to police, officers found the dog's body in a garbage can the night of Feb. 14.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — Authorities in Illinois say a 38-year-old Wisconsin man has been arrested and charged after they say he shot a dog in the head, wrapped it in plastic and threw it in the trash.

According to a Daily Herald report, Wesley Anderson of Genoa City faces charges of animal cruelty and reckless discharge of a firearm according to Lake County circuit court records. Anderson is currently out after posting bond.

Police reports state that a person called 911 on Feb. 19, stating that Anderson shot his Doberman pinscher on Feb. 14 in the basement of a Fox Lake house. According to an ABC-TV report, Anderson had been splitting time between his homes in Wisconsin and Fox Lake.

According to police, officers found the dog's body in a garbage can the night of Feb. 14 and brought it to a local veterinarian for an autopsy. The autopsy revealed that the dog died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Anderson's next hearing is March 12. If convicted, he would face up to three years in prison.
