Wrong-Way Drunken Driver Caught In Higway K Marsh: Report

Authorities say Kenneth Kuzmicki of Frankfort, Illinois has been arrested and faces multiple charges after a wild chase through Caledonia.

RACINE COUNTY, WI — Authorities in Racine County say that the arrest of a 58-year-old drunken driving suspect led them on a wrong-way chase, and a foot pursuit through a marsh.

Racine County Sheriff's officials say Kenneth Kuzmicki of Frankfort, Illinois has been arrested and faces multiple charges including his third drunken driving offense, fleeing an officer, resisting an arrest. He was also cited for reckless driving, driving on a revoked licences and "numerous other traffic citations."

According to officials, a Racine County Sheriff's deputy tried stopping Kuzmicki's 1996 Cadillac coupe for a vehicle registration violation on the Highway G off ramp for I-41 just after midnight on Thursday.

Authorities say Kuzmicki wasn't having any of it. He pulled over his car, and got out, only to be ordered back in by the deputy who pulled him over. He got out of his car.

Sheriff's officials say Kuzmicki sped off in his Cadillac, at times driving the wrong way down the West Frontage Road at more than 80 miles per hour in the 45-mile-per-hour zone.

When Kuzmicki turned onto Highway K, authorities say he pulled a U-turn when he saw a Sheriff's squad car coming straight at him. Authorities say Kuzmicki lost control of his Cadillac, struck several construction signs and ended up in the north ditch on Highway K.

Kuzmicki climbed out of an open passenger-side window and fled into the marshy area north of Highway K, authorities say.

Sheriff's deputies, Caledonia police officers and the Burlington Police K9 unit all responded to the area, and set up a perimeter. It wasn't too much later before Kuzmicki ended up in handcuffs, authorities said.
