Crime & Safety
Back to Class for This Editor Too
Citizens' Academy will teach and educate on police procedure.

It was one of the things I wanted to do as soon as I took on the editor's role at Muskego Patch, but the timing wasn't quite right. The Muskego Police Citizen's Academy was offered in March, but having just taken the reins here, I wasn't ready to juggle that in addition to all the other new responsibilities here.
However, fall is already knocking on the door, and with that a new class is in session, and I'm happy to say I'm enrolled in the first of many sessions offered free to residents on behalf of the.
Class starts Wednesday from 7-10pm and will generally take place at the department headquarters, however, there is a 'field trip' to Waukesha County Technical College in weeks three and seven, as well as a firearms demonstration at the Muskego range toward the end of the 10-week course.

I will chronicle my progress along with those things that are true "I didn't know that!" moments. MPD officers will instruct us on investigations, traffic enforcement, patrol procedures, defense and arrest tactics and other areas that make law enforcement work.
I am hoping to live out my own advice of getting engaged with our community with an organization that perhaps gets the most criticism as well as praise from the residents it serves and protects. While I don't think I'll end up a "Charlie's angel," I am hoping to at least gain perspective and information.

As it goes along, I invite everyone to consider trying this class out as well, or at least ask me the questions you'd like to have answered. I will post updates on Thursday afternoons.
Until then, over and out.
