Big Muskego Lake Report Card Reveals High Marks
Big Muskego Lake/Bass Bay Protection and Rehabilitation District Commission holds quarterly meeting, and the results are good.
At the quarterly meeting of the city’s Big Muskego Lake/Bass Bay Protection and Rehabilitation District Commission, Deputy Commissioner Greg Burmeister was 'pleased overall' with what he had to report to the Commission.
Burmeister reported that the water level is at exactly 6” below the sill and that the dam is closed, with no water moving out. Earlier, a drawdown of lake levels to help root floating bogs meant a 12" lowering of the levels, which are now back on the rise.
The fishing and boating has been good, weeds are at a minimum, and wildlife is plentiful. In particular, Burmeister reported that there are quite a few white pelicans taking up residence on the west end of the lake, and that eagles are active on the east shore. There are also plenty of ducks this year, but few geese, he said.
