Controversy Brewing at Muskego Cemetery, Civil War-Era Graves

One side says the cemetery is a "remnant prairie" with a vintage look. The other side says it's a "weed patch" disrespectful to veterans.

MUSKEGO - A controversy is brewing at the Luther Parker Cemetery in Muskego after a Memorial Day observance to honor two Civil War-era soldiers was performed at their grave sites.

Unlike many cemeteries across the area, where the grass is kept at length and the graves are decorated with flags or other personal attributes - these graves were described as existing in "a weed patch."

According to the FOX 6 report, the city forester calls the cemetery a "remnant prairie" and that the cemetery's condition today reflects how it would have looked when the two Union soldiers had been laid to rest.

Others disagree, saying the buckthorn plants that have taken over the place are akin to "natural barbed wire."
